Counselor in Chicago, Illinois
Hi, my name is Sarah Schufreider, and I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Chicago, Illinois because I know firsthand that life can be unexpectedly painful and complicated. I wanted to help people know that there can still be a lot of joy, even within the struggles.
My work over the past 17 years as a social worker has allowed me to learn from diverse populations including with domestic violence survivors, homeless Veterans, and people experiencing severe mental illness.
But, in many ways, my personal lived experiences are the ones that make me an even better therapist. Like my clients, I am also a person who lives in this complicated world and has to navigate all its joys, struggles, and everything in between.
I am a mother of 6 kids who has lived through pregnancy complications, premature babies, parenting a child with autism, adoption, grief, twins, and having kiddos with complicated medical issues. I am a person in mid-life who is managing all the ins-and-out of aging, balancing my relationships, career ambitions, family responsibilities, and my own life goals. All of which makes me able to share more deeply in the experiences of my clients.
I've gotten advanced training in many areas including menopause mental health, yoga for trauma, and specialized parenting techniques including SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). These allow me to fully show up with strategies that work for you. Additionally, one thing I can promise is that I will make sure to insert some humor into our sessions. Because I believe that laughter and joy helps with healing.
